While everyone is fuzzing over Vietnam’s alleged imitation of Catriona Gray’s winning look, the Philippines makes another victorious walk of fame at the coronation night of the 47th Miss Intercontinental beauty pageant held at the MOA Arena in Manila last January 26. Bb. Pilipinas 2018 winner, Karen Gallman, takes the crown as the new Miss Intercontinental beauty queen. She is the first Filipino to win this crown. But her victory was clouded with news on Gray’s copycat.
Vietnam caught the Filipinos’ attention once again. They accused
Le Au Ngan Anh, the Vietnamese beauty queen, of imitating Miss Universe, Catriona Gray’s evening gown and iconic lava walk. Tweeter users post images of both Gray and Le Au’s evening gowns side by side. They just could not seem to stop talking about Miss Vietnam. Some criticized her while others were kind enough to say that the Vietnamese beauty queen was just inspired by Gray. Miss Vietnam is fourth runner up in the 47th Miss Intercontinental beauty pageant. Gallman does not say anything about the issue.
The Filipino beauty queen grabbed the attention of her Instagram followers when she posted a photograph of her national costume on January 19. The bright yellow-and-gold, ethnic design was inspired by the Moriones Festival, a religious-cultural event celebrated in Marinduque, Philippines during Holy Week. Patrick Isorena, Galman’s costume designer, added the mythical bird, Sarimanok, to his inspiration. It made the beauty queen look fascinating. Karen thanked her designer on her Instagram post.
Karen Gallman remains the cover girl for Metro.style magazine. Her success story inspired the publisher to make her the image model for their “Fascinating Women” campaign. They featured her story in an article published on the Metro.style website on March 1.
